Let's Talk About Sex
Most of my clients come to me because they’re struggling with their sex life and they’re pretty sure it’s all their fault. They’re not having the kind of sex that they want or sex has just become an enormous problem in their relationship. I often find that at the root of these issues surrounding sexuality is shame.
Sometimes that shame is connected to:
· A negative relationship to your own body
· Believing you don’t deserve sexual pleasure or that sex is something you do just for your partner
· Societal & cultural expectations of gender roles
· A belief that whatever you’re into is just too "weird" and you want to feel “normal” but can’t shake this particular desire
Sex is wonderful… and confusing… and hard to talk about. I work with my clients either individually or as couples and my goal is help you uncover exactly what is keeping you from the sex life you want and how to communicate your feelings, fears, and desires in order to get it.
Sex therapy is a specialty within psychotherapy that focuses on the full spectrum of sexuality related concerns. I am currently in training to become a Certified Sex Therapist and Clinical Sexologist. I found through seeking my own therapy that not all therapists are open to talking about sex and sexuality. I strive to be the kind of therapist that is inclusive, sensitive, and well informed about sexuality so my clients are comfortable bringing every aspect of who they are into the therapy room.
PREGNANCY AND POSTPARTUM
Pregnancy and postpartum are times of extreme change and often extreme emotions. Perinatal mood disorders are slowly becoming more widely understood, but still remain mysterious and confusing to new moms. I've chosen to specialize in this area after seeking my own counseling during pregnancy and finding that the Kansas City area is in need of more providers with competence in treating these unique disorders. I have completed training in Perinatal Mental Health Postpartum Support International.
I love working with couple's to improve communication and intimacy. Whether you've been having the same arguments over and over again or you're just feeling out of touch with one another and want to reconnect, therapy can help you get back on track. Having a specialty area in sex therapy is a natural complement to the couple's work I do with clients as they know when they come to me, there are no topics that are off limits.
Sessions are 53-60 minutes and cost $140/session. This can be paid with HSA/FSA funds as well as any other credit/debit card.
I can also provide a superbill for those seeking to use their out-of-network benefits.
